STEPPING STONES STROLL KICKS OFF: NEW TRADITION FOR SMALLEST CITIZENS

KNOXVILLE, IOWA — On Saturday, Oct. 7, the 1st Annual Stepping Stones Stroll, a 5K Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run will headline open house festivities for the new Stepping Stones Early Learning Center. The event, which coincides with a day of celebration and tours of the new childcare and preschool facility, is open to all ages.

Stepping Stones Stroll organizers hope the community will lace up its shoes and step into the newest tradition to help the smallest citizens. The race/walk registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and participants are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7. The race/walk follows a 3.2-mile route that starts at the 15,000 square-foot Stepping Stones facility located at 300 Panther Drive in Knoxville. Participants will trek on the first completed part of Knoxville’s new walking trail – out through Marion County Park – and finish at the Randy Wilson Track on Willetts Dr. adjacent to Stepping Stones.

Engraved stepping stones will go to the male and female overall winners. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in all age groups. Entry forms are appearing weekly in issues of the Marion County Reminder and are also available at Stepping Stones. The registration is $18 through Friday, Sept. 15. After that date, registration will be $20 and will increase to $25 on the day of the race. All pre-registrants will be provided a custom-multi-color race t-shirt.

Children’s activities begin at 10 a.m. at Stepping Stones with a petting zoo, face painting, games, and an autograph session with sprint car driver Skip Jackson. A Kid’s Fun Run is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Randy Wilson Race Track. For more information about the Stepping Stones Stroll, open house/facility tours or enrollment, contact Director Pam Mahoney at 641-828-7837 (STEP) or pmahoney@knoxvillesteppingstones.com.
