Bundling a number of products together to create a gift package can help increase sales. · Have gift certificates available for sale. · Keep in mind the hectic December shipping schedule and ship early to assure your products will arrive where needed on time. · Recognize holidays other than just Christmas, such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, to help increase goodwill and sales. · Relax and Enjoy! Noteable Quoteable… Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. A Note from Community Health Services
Influenza Update Addendum I All three strains of influenza confirmed in Iowa- earliest occurrence on record Three major strains of influenza have been confirmed in Iowa, which is earlier than ever recorded. Influenza A, H1 and H3 were confirmed in past weeks, and type B was isolated this week. Isolates for all three strains were obtained from hospitalized patients, two of whom were under the age of six. It is extremely rare to have all three strains isolated this early in the season. The primary concern with having all three strains circulating is the risk for Iowans to acquire influenza three times. Persons susceptible to complications from influenza are at an even higher risk with several different types circulating in the state. Early season delays in vaccine distribution have been overcome, and many providers have received their full orders of flu vaccine. The Iowa Department of Public Health strongly emphasizes the need for everyone to get the influenza vaccine. The sooner people are able to receive the vaccine, the sooner they are protected. In an effort to boost national vaccination rates, CDC has declared this week “National Influenza Vaccination Week”. For more information visit the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/nivw06.htm. Influenza activity is still sporadic but is increasing across the state. For more information on influenza activity, visit the IDPH influenza website at http://www.idph.state.ia.us/adper/flu.asp.
KACH News Release
NEWS RELEASE:Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Increases Medical Imaging Capabilities to Deliver More Accurate Diagnosis to Patients Aquilion 16-slice CT scanner will record more detailed images KNOXVILLE – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics is pleased to announce the installation of the Aquilion 16-slice computed tomography (CT) system from Toshiba. This equipment has an increased rotation speed which will enable physicians to capture more detail of internal anatomy, especially moving organs such as the heart, for improved diagnostic accuracy. While the 16-slice CT scanner improves the clinical insight, in addition the increased speed results in faster overall scan time, making exams shorter and potentially more comfortable for patients. The Aquilion 16 is the only scanner that acquires 16-slices as thin as 0.5 mm, within a single 400-millisecond rotation. This 0.4 second scanning capability further enhances the image quality of the scanner by delivering more accurate clinical images depicting fine details, including minute coronary arteries, soft plaque, and small vessel structures, for significantly enhanced cardiology studies. “Knoxville Hospital & Clinics continues to provide our patients with diagnostic and treatment equipment, provide personal and professional care to all patients in the region, and maintain its current high standards of care to all patients,” said Ann Helwig, CEO. “We are very excited to be one of the few rural hospitals in the region providing a 16-slice CT scanner.” What is a CT Scan? Computed tomography (CT) combines the use of X-rays with the latest computer technology. Using a series of X-ray beams, the CT scanner creates cross-sectional images. A computer reconstructs these “slices” to produce the actual pictures. Considering that some slices are as thin as half a millimeter, a CT scan offers much more image detail than a traditional X-ray, which means physicians get the best information to make the most accurate diagnosis. Why a CT Scan? Physicians may recommend a CT scan when there is a need to evaluate soft tissue, such as internal organs. Because the system is able to capture information in a cross-sectional format, physicians are better able to view the size, shape, and position of soft tissue structures than if using regular X-rays. CT scans help identify tumors and cysts, as well as help diagnose diseases of the liver, lungs, coronary arteries, and other internal organs. What can be expected during an exam? Scanning takes only seconds, though total exam times will vary. For most CT exams, patients will be asked to wear a gown to prevent clothing from obstructing the X-rays. When the exam begins, the table will move to a starting position, pause, and then move to the final scanning position. On the table, patients will be surrounded by a donut-shaped object. This houses the X-ray tube that generates the invisible X-ray beams. Little noise is produced by the object. Patients may only hear mechanical humming, which is the sound of the X-ray tube rotating inside the object. Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, a Critical Access Hospital serving Marion County and the surrounding area, is dedicated to providing personal, progressive quality health care with compassion. For more information regarding this release and other happenings at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, call the Public Relations office at (641) 842-1418.
