MYENTRENET!!
Greetings from Amy Kuhlers, Program Manager UNI Regional Business Center/SBDC! 2007 Has Arrived – Is this the year you’ll start or expand your business??!! If so, you won’t want to miss the first Online Seminar of the year, The Power of Planning! Join me Monday, January 8th at 7:00 pm as I welcome Richard Petersen for an instructive discussion on creating a business plan to help you succeed! As blueprints are the foundation for any well-built structure, business plans lay the groundwork for your successful enterprise. Learn the elements of creating a solid plan for your business from a pro! Richard Petersen was the Director of the North Iowa Area Small Business Development Center in Mason City Iowa for 21 years until his recent retirement. He now works as an independent contractor providing business counseling services and teaching classes in entrepreneurial development. Prior to his duties with the SBDC, Petersen and his wife owned and operated a full-service hardware store in Earlham, a small rural community in central Iowa. TO PARTICIPATE, simply go to www.myentre.net and enter through the entrepreneurs’ side of the web application. Click on “Online Seminar” in the left column and you are in. (If you haven’t done so, you will need to fill out a brief registration form to access MyEntreNet.) There’s no need to pre-register. Interested in Online Selling? For those who’ve been interested in starting an online business, on January 15th our presenter will be Monica Doyle, an eBay Education Specialist, who’ll provide an overview of what you need to know to post your products on-line! New Year’s Resolutions for Business Success: Business Planning and more business planning…it helps to keep track of where you are and where you want to be. Set aside time weekly if possible to review what’s working and what’s not. Be your biggest advocate! Promote your business regularly and consistently – create that marketing plan you keep putting off! Delegate, delegate, delegate – Don’t find yourself smothered by all the hats you wear – you might be surprised to find some of those hats fit other people very well! Set goals, but set realistic goals – helps lead to success rather then distress at the end of the year. Get rid of the paper clip and duct tape approach – If you have just been ‘making do’ with items your efficiency is probably suffering – evaluate items you really need and if they are outdated and inefficient, replace them. Contribute to your community – there are a lot people and organizations that may have helped you on your path, be a mentor or volunteer (or possibly a MyEntreNet Navigator?) and ‘pass it on’. Continue to learn…whether it’s through a workshop directly related to your business, or mastering the art of juggling. You will meet new and interesting people that may become colleagues, customers or friends. Make time for you! Set an appointment on your weekly calendar for a meeting with yourself – and keep it. Calendar Reminders: Monday January 8, 7:00 pm: The Power of Planning Monday January 15, 7:00 pm: ‘Online Business – An eBay Overview
