MYENTRENET!!
Greetings! If you’ve attended any of our Online Seminars, you know that weekly I host a topical presenter, covering a separate area of interest each session. This week, however, we are going to mix things up a bit! Join me at 7:00 pm, Monday, February 12th, as I welcome Maureen Collins-Williams and Mike Hahn of the UNI Regional Business Center/SBDC for an open platform question and answer session! If you’re seeking answers to questions not covered in past seminars, this is your opportunity to ask away! Remember, if you have a question, chances are that many of your peers are wondering the same! So plan on joining us Monday for a great hour of interaction, answers and networking! Maureen Collins-Williams, Director of the University of Northern Iowa Regional Business Center / SBDC has worked with Iowa businesses since 1982, serving start up and existing companies with a wide array of business assistance services. She has 25 years of experience in business plan development, loan packaging, marketing and finance. She founded MyEntreNet, our rural entrepreneurship development system in 2001. Mike Hahn is Senior Program Manager and has worked extensively with small business development since 1989. As state-wide coordinator for MyEntreNet, he works primarily with rural regions in organizing support networks that foster the development and growth of small businesses locally. Mike’s expertise is in business plan development, financial packaging, marketing and sales. He has been with UNI since 2001. MyEntreNet Features Since last week we had quite a bit of activity on the MyEntreNet Listserv, I thought another reminder of some usage information might be welcome! When we sign new registered members to the listserv, a welcome email is sent which includes information on the listserv protocol. However, if you are anything like me, many times the valuable information included in those emails gets ‘overlooked’. So, as a reminder… We do encourage MyEntreNet members to post short, business-related questions on the listserv, and hope that fellow entrepreneurs will share their own experiences in answer to those posts. When posting a question on the listserv, be sure to include something in the subject line like: MyEntreNet – Marketing question for listserv members. This should help alleviate any confusion by recipients. If you would like to respond to a question, simply reply to the email you receive and it will go to the author. You are also welcome to send your reply to the entire listserv if you would like, and will need to then select ‘reply-all’. And, of course, you are always free to simply delete any email that you do not care to respond to! It is my hope that with further understanding of how a listserv works, we will not run into the issues we experienced last week and everyone will continue to receive beneficial updates and information from both myself, and from other entrepreneurial members! Is Your Business ‘Webinally’ Challenged? Then mark your calendar for our Online Seminar on February 19th when I welcome back Marty Stratton from Art A La Carte in Newton, to visit about effective website design for your business! Notable Quotable… The entrepreneur builds an enterprise; the technician builds a job. (Michael Gerber)
A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Wow. It seems like 2007 just started and we are already in the middle of February. There is so much happening in Knoxville it is almost impossible to keep up. Thank you to everyone that contributed to a wonderful program at the annual Chamber Awards Banquet. The evening was filled with food, music, awards, inspiration, a great auction and lots of fun; what a great tribute to the accomplishments of 2006, and a motivating start to this year. Congratulations to all nominees as well as award recipients. I am honored to be Chamber president at a time when the support and enthusiasm for Knoxville is as high as I can remember since becoming involved in Chamber work. The 2007 board of directors consists of diverse and highly qualified members and each is dedicated to the betterment of our community. Past President Craig Agan, President elect Sandy Selvy, and Treasurer Rex DeMoss serve with me on the Executive Board, and bring a great cross section of background and experience to help guide the Chamber through the year’s activities. Ex-officio members, Mayor Harv Sprafka and City Manager Dick Schrad, display a cooperative spirit that can only enhance the Chamber’s efforts. Look for more exciting news next month regarding ex-officio members. It is a privilege to work with these leaders and I am looking forward to significant accomplishments in the coming year. Executive Director Roxanne Johnson, along with Executive Assistants Donell States and Teresa Rowley, work tirelessly in and out of the office to accomplish the arduous tasks of promoting Knoxville. Their efforts are directed toward current and prospective residents and businesses, and keeping the community in concert with other organizations in the county; all working on our behalf to continue Knoxville’s place of prominence in Iowa’s tourism sector. If you have not met these super ladies please stop in soon; their enthusiasm is contagious. This year’s event-filled calendar should provide an opportunity for everyone to contribute to Knoxville’s way of life and to the progress that will keep our community growing and vibrant for many years to come. If you have not yet called the Chamber office to volunteer for a committee, please do so soon; we would love to have you join in on the fun! And speaking of fun, be sure to mark Saturday evening March 31st on your calendar. You will not want to miss out on a fantastic evening of fun and frivolity at Lake Red Rock Cultural Center. I am looking forward to an exciting and bountiful year for Knoxville! Jim
