How to Lead for Positive Customer Service

1. Identify your values about customer service.  Realize that customer service is a philosophy, not a department.
2. Hire the right people to serve your customers.  Make sure they can think on their feet and possess good people skills and judgment.
3. Train your people.  Tell them, show them, let them practice and observe how to effectively deal with customers.
4. Develop their self-esteem.  People cannot like and serve a customer unless they like and serve themselves.
5. Respect and appreciate your employees.  Trust them.  Support their judgment.   Show them how they fit in the overall company and team.  Recognize the value of their work.
6. Realize that a customer contact job is a stressful one.  Consider cross-training and rotating employees to do other jobs periodically.  Also offer stress management ideas.
7. Be a model of good customer service yourself.  The "lengthening shadow" concept says that employees observe the boss' behavior and their behavior becomes a direct reflection of what the boss is doing.
8. Go out and manage by wondering around.  Go out where the customer is.  Observe and listen to how they are being treated by the employees.  Then praise your people in public and correct their behavior in private.
9. Periodically call your customers yourself to follow-up on a sale, check on the service they received or just say, "Thank you for your business!"
10. Remember a good salesperson is more important than the merchandise.  The successful manager and store owner will be one who understands the development and the delivery of high quality service, and one who endeavors to meet the needs of both external and internal customers.  The successful organizations will be those known for their steadfast commitment to service, quality and the ability to deliver it without fail.

Mumps Vaccine Available at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics has vaccine for mumps available. Mumps is a virus spread by airborne transmission with mucus or droplets from the nose or throat of an infected person, usually when a person coughs or sneezes. The most common symptoms are fever, headache, and swollen salivary glands under the jaw. The disease can lead to hearing loss, infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord and, in 20-30% of males who have reached puberty, the disease can cause painful swollen testicles.
It is recommended that people who have these symptoms should stay home from work or school. If individuals need medical care, please call your doctor and do not just walk into the clinic.
It is assumed that individuals who are over the age of 65 had the mumps. Also assumed, children age K-12 and currently enrolled in school have been vaccinated. Anyone else, unless you are certain you have had the mumps or both doses of the vaccination for mumps, should be vaccinated.
In addition to getting the vaccination, individuals can further protect themselves and others by practicing good hygiene. Cover your nose and mouth, preferably with disposable tissue when sneezing or cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Practice good hand-washing techniques by cleaning your hands with soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds.
The current outbreak of mumps is the worst outbreak nationwide in twenty years. For further information regarding the mumps vaccination, please call the Knoxville Hospital Clinic at 828-7211.
Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, a Critical Access Hospital serving Marion County and the surrounding area, is dedicated to providing personal, progressive quality health care with compassion.  For more information regarding this release and other happenings at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, call the Public Relations office at (641) 842-1418.
