Donell States, Executive Assistant: dstates@iowatelecom.net
Main Chamber email: knoxvillechamber@iowatelecom.net

Plants

As you have probably noticed the planters on the square have been planted and in order to keep them alive they will need to be watered. If you have a planter outside your business please put a gallon of water on them at least every other day if it hasn't rained.

Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Race Booth

Would you like to volunteer on race nights for a couple of hours (during Nationals will be more hours) and get free tickets into the races? We have the opportunity for you……….
Call us at 641-828-7555.

Knoxville 4th of July Spectacular

We couldn't have asked for a better day for the 4th of July Celebration. Days events ranged from Gee Willie Entertainment and Smitty’s Rides for the kids to the Dunk Tank to the Skate Competition where all participants remained safe with helmets either provided on their own or by the Knoxville Police Department followed in the evening by a spectacular display of fireworks!! Thanks to all volunteers, sponsors and Donators who helped us have a great 4th of July!!!

2006 Marion County Fair Queen

Alyssa Vande Voort of Pella was crowned the 2006 Marion County Fair Queen at a coronation ceremony last night. Tisha Pol of Pella was the 1st runner up. A large crowd was on hand at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. It's become the traditional kickoff to the Marion County Fair Festivities.

2006 Family Fun Fair at Auld Park

Turn out and weather for this event was great!! About 400+ people were served and it was just a beautiful day for the Family Fun Fair.

Miscellaneous Happenings

*****The Chamber is in need of daily lists of events happening during the Nationals from all local businesses and churches or other organizations. Please bring them to the Chamber of Commerce located at 309 E Main St. or email them to dstates@iowatelecom.net.*****

We have received a great response on Host Houses for the Race Fans during Nationals. However, we are still in need of more indoor housing. We have plenty of camping, but we still need Hosts with rooms available for our Race Fans. So please fill out our Host a Race Fan Housing form. Pg 4, and return to the Chamber. Come on, let’s show the Race Fan’s what gracious hosts Knoxvillians are!!!!

The 7th annual Iowa Sales Tax Holiday will be held Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5, 2006. Iowa businesses will not charge sales tax, including school and local option sales taxes, on sales of qualifying clothing and footwear with a selling price of less than $100.00. Extensive lists of taxable and exempt items and other information are available on the Iowa Department of Revenue Website at http://www.state. ia.us/tax/educate/holiday1.html.

The "Save our Stadium Committee" has fantastic news! Dan and Jana Dennison told them that the SOS effort is the subject of this year's Dan-D Farms Corn Maze! Talk about excitement! Just imagine the publicity! Too cool! And the SOS yard signs have been so popular that walking signs seemed in order; like smashing T-Shirts! They also have pledge cards for those of us who want to donate! Check it out!

Host a Race Fan!!

It is that time of year again to start lining up host houses for the thousands of visitors coming to Knoxville for the Nationals.
If you feel this is something that interest you, please fill out the enclosed form, so that we can best match guests to your home.
Many of the applications we receive also include a letter describing the jobs, interests and backgrounds of the visitor.
The more specifics you can give us, the more likely the people that visit your home will be the kind of people you will enjoy visiting.

We will refer the requests to you, and then you will determine the rates for stay between yourselves. We hope that you will maintain reasonable expectations, and that the fees will be below hotel rates. There is no obligation for either party if you cannot come to an agreement.

This is our opportunity to showcase the wonderful hospitality of Knoxville, Iowa to people from all over the world.
The comments that we receive from guests tell us this is one of the highlights of the Knoxville Nationals!!
