Call us at 641-828-7555.

Miscellaneous Happenings

*****The Chamber is in need of daily lists of events happening during the Nationals from all local businesses and churches or other organizations. Please bring them to the Chamber of Commerce located at 309 E Main St. or email them to dstates@iowatelecom.net.*****

We have received a great response on Host Houses for the Race Fans during Nationals. However, we are still in need of more indoor housing. We have plenty of camping, but we still need Hosts with rooms available for our Race Fans. So please fill out our Host a Race Fan Housing form. Pg 4, and return to the Chamber. Come on, let’s show the Race Fan’s what gracious hosts Knoxvillians are!!!!

The 7th annual Iowa Sales Tax Holiday will be held Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5, 2006. Iowa businesses will not charge sales tax, including school and local option sales taxes, on sales of qualifying clothing and footwear with a selling price of less than $100.00. Extensive lists of taxable and exempt items and other information are available on the Iowa Department of Revenue Website at http://www.state. ia.us/tax/educate/holiday1.html.

Welcome back Troy Hawkshead, new manager for the Hormel Plant in Knoxville. Troy, who took over the top post last month, has been with Hormel for the past 21 years; most recently working at the corporate office in Austin, Minnesota. He also worked actively in the community from 1994-98, while serving as a Hormel Superintendent.

Kudos to Iowa Realty's Bruce Roof, one of four finalists in the state for the "Good Neighbor Award" through the Iowa Association of Realtors. This award is for Realtors that get involved in community projects outside of Real Estate. Bruce's involvement in the Kiwanis trailer project has led to his nomination, with the winner to be announced in September at the annual state meeting of the Iowa Association of Realtors.

On a motion by Mike Helle, the Knoxville School Board voted unanimously Monday night to move forward with the process of seeking bids for all design options suggested for the Ken Locke Stadium restoration project. Architects estimated that costs could vary between $505,000 and $696,000 dollars. It was also noted that pledges made available for the costlier historic plan might not be forthcoming for a lesser project.

Mayor Harv Sprafka is working with a  group from the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University and they're interested in touring our VA Facility to see if it might be feasible as an energy research center or a campus for research.

Did you Know?

This year the Chamber created a 38 page glossy full-color Visitors Guide. The Guide will be used to promote tourism, community and economic development for Knoxville. Over 10,000 copies will be printed and distributed, throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Only Chamber Business members are featured in the guide and are given the opportunity to advertise in the guide. Host a Race Fan!!

It is that time of year again to start lining up host houses for the thousands of visitors coming to Knoxville for the Nationals.
If you feel this is something that interest you, please fill out the enclosed form, so that we can best match guests to your home.
Many of the applications we receive also include a letter describing the jobs, interests and backgrounds of the visitor.
The more specifics you can give us, the more likely the people that visit your home will be the kind of people you will enjoy visiting.

We will refer the requests to you, and then you will determine the rates for stay between yourselves. We hope that you will maintain reasonable expectations, and that the fees will be below hotel rates. There is no obligation for either party if you cannot come to an agreement.

This is our opportunity to showcase the wonderful hospitality of Knoxville, Iowa to people from all over the world.
The comments that we receive from guests tell us this is one of the highlights of the Knoxville Nationals!!
